Theme manager is part of a low-code CRM builder platform for Telco companies. It allows users to create, update & manage the look and feel of the interface within an organization.

I was in charge of getting the requirements from the product managers and the dev team to understand the backend limitations. The process included: high level concept, research, wireframes, design reviews, prototype, UI design, and implementation overview.

The Challenge

The design process is often too complicated for people with less of a technical background. I wanted to create a streamlined, easy-to-use interface with the existing Material UI library—taking into consideration its limitations.

Market Research

I looked at different low-code platforms to understand the complexity and functionalities of the theme managers (or if they have one). Common features include applying a whole theme or manage individual components; some of them have ability to use CSS code or use predefined themes.

Ensuring strong User Experience

After the conceptualisation and market research, I needed to ensure good user experience for such complex system. I mapped out the user journey steps to ensure logical progression and including all the necessary steps. It also allows to understand the effort for the dev and design teams early on.

Once the user flows was finalized, I used wireframes to go into detailed logic of each feature to create efficient, intuitive, and user-centered digital product.

LOW FIDELITY PROTOTYPE

Predefined themes

Giving a starting point eases the process of theme creation, provides inspiration and a set point for users with less strict design rules in place. It was also a part of the tech limitation that the new theme can't be created from scratch.

Preview changes live

Users can see in real time changes they make and preview it before applying the theme which gives them control in creating designs.

Customized UI elements, typography & brand colors

Big companies might have a strict design system rules and the ability to customize different aspects will give more flexibility and allow creating stronger brand identity.

In the themes dashboard users can manage each team by applying it on multiple apps, using CSS and previewing elements without opening the theme.
